Global Warming
How did you feel after watching Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth"? It was an awakening for me. Seeing the graphs and pictures really jolted me and the forecast abt countries that will be swarmed and the ice age.... the end of the world never felt so near. For one now, I make sure power is switched off, when not in use, photocopy both sides of paper and always have a personal shopping bag with me. What are you doing on your own? Or maybe with your friends? With your class?

Well, today, we watched APJ Abdul Kalam's slides entitled "Life in the Year 2070". It paints a bleak picture of the future. I personally thought it was a powerful way to make us all realise what we are facing in terms of environmental degradation. The most powerful slide for me is the one when the protagonist said that he felt guilty for being one of the pple responsible for the current state of the environment in 2070. Slide 20 reminds us all that we still have time to save the earth! What can and will we do to do our part today?

I felt the slideshow clearly spells the consequences of a irreversible climate change. However, APJ Abdul Kalam clearly wanted to project his objective to push for change in the way people conduct activities with relation to the environment. In my opinion, the slideshow can appeal to sci- students if the creator included evidence and links to actual scenarios of the effects of global warming.
HI, LimeBeetle,
Clearly, the slideshow and anything for that matter that people create can be tweaked to meet the different needs of different audiences. For APJ Abdul Kalam to do his slides the way he did, I believe he wanted it to reach the ordinary person, because it is the ordinary person who has a careless regard of the environment and the message thus needs to first reach these people.
